At 88 years old, Dame Judi Dench has achieved remarkable success in her long and illustrious career. Rising to prominence as one of Britain’s greatest actresses, Dench has left an indelible mark on both stage and screen.
However, the iconic performer has been battling a debilitating condition that affects her eyesight. Diagnosed with macular degeneration in 2012, Dench has been dealing with blurred central vision and the possibility of significant vision loss or even blindness within a decade.
Despite her struggles, Dench remains resilient and determined. She recently embarked on a journey to Scotland, accompanied by her grandson, Sam, with the goal of fulfilling a lifelong wish: to see a golden eagle in its natural habitat.

Accompanied by wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin, Dench participated in the BBC’s Countryfile show to locate and observe golden eagles in the wild. The emotional and tearjerking footage captured Dench’s genuine awe and gratitude as she witnessed two golden eagles soaring alongside a kestrel. She thanked Yassin, saying, “I could see one, and you are a witness to seeing that I saw it… (I’m) very overcome… It’s an enormous privilege, don’t you (think)?”.
