Oleksandr Usyk really fought beside the Pyramids like some modern gladiator
The 39-year-old champion defended his heavyweight titles against Rico Verhoeven during the insane “Glory in Giza” event in Egypt — and the whole thing felt bigger than boxing itself.
A special arena and elevated ring were built near the Pyramids of Giza for the event, with reports saying the production cost passed $40 million.
Anthony Joshua, Jason Statham and other celebrities watched from ringside while millions tuned in around the world.
But the actual fight?
Way harder than many expected.
Verhoeven came in bigger, heavier and kept putting pressure on Usyk for most of the night. At one point, fans online seriously thought the undefeated Ukrainian might finally lose.
With ONE second left before the bell in Round 11, Usyk landed the uppercut that ended everything
Reports say Usyk earned around $35 million for the night, while Verhoeven reportedly received close to $12 million — the biggest payday of his career.
Honestly, this didn’t feel like normal boxing anymore.
It felt like Saudi-style sports entertainment turning fighters into global movie characters
