During a cold December day in 2019, Kristina Hollie, accompanied by her coworker, was waiting for the bus at Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their attention was drawn by a lovable dog earnestly engaged with errands alongside his owner.
As the dog’s owner prepared to enter the post office—a place that sadly doesn’t allow pets—the dog was reluctantly tied to a tree nearby.
Suffering the Cold
Observing the scenario, Hollie noticed the dog visibly shivering due to the frigid conditions. The owner, too, noticed this and was quick to take steps to ensure her four-legged friend’s comfort.
“The weather was definitely harsh,” says Hollie. “The dog was visibly affected, which his owner quickly noticed, prompting her to wrap him in her jacket and zip it up to keep him warm.”
A Cozy Canine in a Green Jacket
The dog reacted to this gesture graciously, standing still, possibly aware of his owner’s loving effort made especially for him. He seemed delighted to be in the snug confines of the jacket, ready to brave the cold while his owner was away.
“The owner seemed genuinely touched when I complimented her quick thinking and compassion,” Hollie added. “She responded with a simple, ‘Thank you! I just don’t want him to be cold!’”
Becoming the Center of Attention
In her absence, the dog, now sporting an athletic green jacket, attracted quite a crowd. Passersby stopped to take pictures while gushing over how adorable and warm the dog looked.
“Several other people who walked by commented on his cuteness and warmth,” recalls Hollie, who later posted pictures of the warm and stylish dog on Facebook.
Deserving of the ‘Best Dog Parent’ Award
“His owner, noticing that Shakeyboi was cold, covered him with her jacket before stepping into the post office. This is something I would do as well,” Hollie narrated on the viral social media post that gained over 11,000 likes and a lot of appreciation for the owner’s kindness.
One comment on the Dogspotting group, where the post was shared, read, “This is how all dogs should be treated.” Another added, “She undoubtedly deserves the best dog parent award!”
As Hollie’s bus arrived and she prepared to board, she cast one final look at the adorable dog, who was proudly donning the borrowed jacket, confidently awaiting his owner—the woman who did not hesitate to give up her own comfort for him.
