Akira Tanaka was a perfectionist – her dance, her life, everything had to be flawless. After a career-ending injury, she lost her way. One day, she stumbled upon a community dance class in a hidden Melbourne laneway.

The teacher, Eli, was unorthodox – he’d say “fall, then rise.” Akira struggled, but something sparked. She started letting go, her movements raw.

Eli shared his story – he’d faced darkness, found solace in movement. Akira opened up about her fears, her dreams. The group became her tribe.

One night, Akira’s mum came to a performance. They’d been distant for years, but as Akira danced, her mum saw her – really saw her.

Afterwards, they talked. Akira realized she’d been dancing for others, not herself. She started creating her own art, her own way .
