The Pilbara’s red horizon swallowed sunsets whole. Ari “Ax” Jensen knew its pulse – iron mountains marching to ancient rhythms, ghosting gorges where euros danced like shadows. Locals called ’em “the Ranges”; Ax navigated them like arteries, mapping secret waterholes and ridge crests where wedge-tailed eagles banked on thermals.

Dawn at Karijini; Ax loaded rig, trekked Weano’s twisting chasms where petroglyphs watched like sentinels – pecked hands, hunted Thylacines. “Old storytellers”, he’d whisper. Campfire nights, he’d drum Martu songs, clapping sticks on ironwood; wind echoed Tarkarri whispers.

Mining shuts, Ax’d join turtle nests – Exmouth’s Ningaloo husks where humpbacks calved. “Mother’s heartbeat.” Nights, he’d sketch ginkgos on driftwood, yarn with pearl divers about Cinderella’s submerged gardens. Dampier’s salt giants loomed like monoliths.

Firing Range gigs, Ax’d chase meteor showers – starsand on Pilbara soil. “Sky country.” Post-gig, he’d craft Marra didgeridoos, curve termite-hollow tubes whispering Yamatji songs. Newman’s red dust hid sacred sites; Ax read lizard tracks like braille.

Cams arm swung cyclone fences; Ax joined clean-up crews – mangled roofs, defiant spinifex. At Tom Price pub, he’d busk; red dust clapback. Miners tapped boots; kids drew fire-rainbow lizards. “Ax, spin ‘Emu Dream’.”

Ax’d unfurl dronepipe; notes swallowed gorge rims. Wind chewed sound; country claimed it back. Sessions lasted till Orion belt dipped – Pilbara’s signature.
