Nullarbor’s red earth swallowed trucks whole. Jesse “Nully” Banks knew its lungs – ancient limestone caves, whispering meteor crests. Tourists called ’em sinkholes; Nully mapped them like ancestors.

Dawn at Eucla; Nully loaded rigs, trekked seaward. Whales breached Roe’s flats – “Eas’wind cousins”, he’d say. Campfire, he’d spin Yininga (women’s) songs.

Motel nights, Nully’d yarn with old opal miners – mullock heaps, shifting sand. “Listen country.” Kids drew nightjar tracks; Nully taught bush linder.

Cave diving gigs, Nully’d thread cathedrals – light beams on jade walls. “Mother’s pulse.” Post-dive, he’d carve mulga didgeridoos.

Storm season hit; Nully joined clean-up crews – scuba gear checks, beach wracks. At Anchor’s tavern, he’d busk didge; wild ocean clapbacks.
